![]() ![]() ![]() The city’s position was that a rail museum was only possible if most of the Roundhouse was leased out to commercial tenants. The all-volunteer Toronto Railway Historical Association was created in 2001 and became advocates for a rail museum while establishing a productive relationship with the City of Toronto. There were multiple attempts at turning the roundhouse into a museum, but none gained any traction until after the year 2000. The structure, built in 1929, as well as the property it stood on was turned over to the City of Toronto with the purpose of eventually turning it into a railway museum. Our story starts with the closure of Canadian Pacific’s John Street Roundhouse in 1986.
